Aimed at umpires and scorers who wish to umpire or score matches for their club or possibly entry levels of league cricket.
No prior knowledge or experience is required.
For umpires - an ECB ACO Level 1 qualified certificate is awarded on passing a 50 question, multi-choice examination.
For scorers - an ECB ACO Level 1 Certificate is awarded on successful completion of a match record based on a script provided.
The Level 1 umpiring course is delivered by the district training officers and consists of 9 weekly two and half hour sessions with an examination in the tenth week. The examination consists of approx. 50 questions and you are required to select from a choice of answers. The syllabus has been thoroughly revamped. There is more on fieldcraft and match management as well as the Laws. A Level 1 qualified umpire will be fully equipped to run a match competently. Fee for the course is £50, the ACO charges £30 for the course material but that includes a year's free membership of the ACO, it also includes a year's membership of the WCUSA, since the membership fee for the ACO in 2011 is £30 that of the WCUSA is £14 it effectively means that the course is free.
The course is suitable for retiring players and anyone who has an interest in cricket and umpiring.
A Level 1 course starting on Saturday 28th. January 2012 and Monday 30th. January 2012 with the exams on Saturday 31st. March and Monday 2nd. April is provisionally booked at Edgbaston and a course at Coventry running from Monday 30th. January 2012 with the exam on Monday 2nd. April is also provisionally booked.
