The Association for all Cricket Umpires and Scorers based in Warwickshire
A Level 1A course has now been arranged for Saturday 12th November 2011.
The course will take place in the Committee Room in the New Pavilion, Edgbaston. Start time 9.00a.m., finish time approx. 5.00 p.m. Course tutors are Cliff Jones and Trevor Cotton.
Level 1A is not examination based. Aimed at the umpire who wishes to progress to the League panel. Level 1 qualification and relevant experience is a pre-requisite. A candidate must have completed at least a season of umpiring. He will be required to complete and submit 10 match planners and self assessment reports of games in which he has stood. He will be supplied with a workbook enabling him to complete 16 "Activity Reports", setting topics. These deal with various aspects of the Laws and of Match Management.
The course is intended, in part, to be managed as an interactive workshop – it is not intended to be a taught course and some of the activities may be undertaken away from the course as distance learning. In addition the candidate should be encouraged to read the relevant Laws away from the formal classroom and between sessions. While there is to be guided discussion the candidates should be encouraged to apply themselves initially to some activities on their own, recording their own thoughts and notes before reviewing these with a fellow candidate to simulate consultation with a colleague. Where numbers, time and geography permit each pair could further ‘consult’ with a colleague pair to compare and contrast their results.
The Lead Tutor is required to sign-off the candidate workbook, (16 activities completed satisfactorily) and to make a personal recommendation that the candidate is prepared and ready for his/her professional discussion – the independent and final assessment. This will be conducted by an ECB ACO approved assessor from the County or Regional team.
An ECB ACO Level 1A Certificate is awarded on successful completion and discussion of their course workbook and practical experience. Course fee includes all course materials and workbook.
